Hikin' the Canyon

Amelia finally woke up to take in the view!

Mmm ice cream! And protection from the VERY well fed squirrels

Learning all about "slope-formers"

Horses & donkeys at the top of the S. Kaibab trailhead

Hikin' out!

yay daddy!!

getting closer!

Finally! Tom reaches the bottom of the switchbacks!!

Starting our hike- it was almost impossible to get all 3 of us

Beautiful morning!

I decided to take the girls up to the Grand Canyon last Thursday to go pick up Tom from his hike out- I also wanted to check out Ali's art installation that has been at the Park Headquarters since she finished her Grand Canyon Youth trip in July.
We left Flagstaff nice & early with Lily VERY excited to go on a 'venture' and surprise daddy. I spent most of the ride reminding her that no matter what she had to be holding a hand or in the backpack while at the canyon- she was scared enough that she was an excellent listener.
I got a few funny looks at the trailhead as I was loading Amelia up in the baby bjorn and Lily into the backpack- or maybe it was the fact that I had flip-flops on.. We only walked down a few of the switchbacks & then waited in the shade for Tom to appear below us. We waited about 20 minutes & finally caught a glimpse of him. We were all beyond excited that daddy was home & it was fun to hike out with him- although I'm SO glad I didn't go any further as it was hard hiking out with 30+ lbs of kid on you!
We ended our 'aventure' with ice cream cones at the rim (which is kind of what you have to do!)
