Girls on the Run 5k

As many of you already know, I am training for the PF Changs Rock N Roll Marathon in January (1/16/11) and am raising money for Girls on the Run of N. AZ through their Solemates program.
If you don't know much about GOTR it is an amazing organization and I am a member of their board. Here is some more info:

The mission of Girls on the Run or Northern Arizona is to educate and prepare girls for a lifetime of self-respect and healthy living. We fulfill our mission by offering curriculum-based, experiential, character development programs that inspire girls to stay true to themselves and live outside societal stereotypes. Our 12-week afterschool programs uses the power of running to provide girls in grades 3-8 with tools to:
  • Celebrate their bodies
  • Honor their voices
  • Recognize their gifts
  • Activate their personal power
One of the coolest thing about this fund-raising program is that 100% of the money goes back to the local non-profit and trust me, I see the financials- there is very little waste and the money raised goes right back to the girls. If you would like to sponsor me, in any way, please click here.

At the end of each session the girls run a 5k- everyone wears the #1 and it isn't timed- it's just about running for the love of the sport & fun. Here are some pictures of Lily, Amelia & I running this year's 5k last weekend.

Going down the big hill- Amelia slept the whole time
